Liam McElwain says:
I grew up in southern california in a town just north of san diego called del mar there is aparticular species of pine tree called the torrey pine it's resemblance to the trees in blue desert are absolutely uncanny. theres trees that look like these strewn along sandstone cliffs next to the ocean. this picture makes me think of where i grew up and the innocent imagination of a young kid exploring this magical realm of self discovery and awe of the beauty of the world around him. this picture returns me to my childhood but also envisions me with images of the ancient past and future. cool runnings

permanent breath-taker... it takes your directly into the flight of fantasy. eversince floated by asia & yes covers, this is one of my favourite. not because it is featured in the astonishing abwh album, but simply by its composition and exotic forms and landscaping...

Burak says:
War, pollution and excessive population has made the world today a place not to be living in, and now human beings are searching for a new planet on the universe. At last it has found itself a new planet and decided to move there. On the new planet, the human being has formed a similar environment to our world. First of all blue was created for all the liveliness on the world blue itself is life's existence. On the new planet life will be formed on blue. "Blue Desert" is the magnificient picture of what the human being will create on the universe in the future.

Squire Phisch says:
Your comments here...There is a place within one's spirit which leads to the uncommon holy ground'imagination'. Unexplored land for many, fertile loam for very few. Infinite, infintessimal.,divided, yet whole. There, I find fuel for inspiration ,life for lifelessness, and balm the soul. Wonderment and serenity; faithful companions always there to greet me. I will see you there; in distant dreams.

Phil Craigie says:
A fantastic image ! It seems todays computer artists are trying to create similar images to this and Rogers influence can be seen everywhere. A true original, Rogers Deans images will continue to influence artists for generations.

Diems Wilson says:
Dear Roger: Your drawings amaze me since the first Yes album covers I've seen some 20 years or more ago. Many years ago I've bought your Magnetic Storm book which stands on the honor spot of my bookshelf. I'm spiritist and I consider your drawings depictings of your memories from another worlds and/or dimensions. I'd like to ask you if "see" those images on your mind before you begin sketching or you just go sketching and drawing, just following your impulses? I'd like to understand that better, if you feel like talking about that of course. I don't wanna bother you, but I have strange fellings of having already being there on some of the places you've depicted, specially the Sidney Village, Green Castle, Flights of Icarus and Beginnings. Please tell me something about that and don't think I'm crazy ;-) By the way, your homepage is just terific, great!
Best regards, Your fan, Diems Porto Alegre - Brazil

Winston Arntz says:
The first glance of this painting almost hypnotized me...I just HAD to listen to the bands'music; Anderson Bruford Wakeman Howe. And this directly lead to THE musical expierience of my life; YES Music... Thank you Roger, Blue Desert was my awakening...

Moulder says:
I like this artwork - it looks like some of the final fantasy artwork I downloaded the other night, but that bit better. My mom said that she had some artwork on a poster that looks like your style, but isn't, so she's been trying to work out who it was.

David says:
A style immediately recognisable, whatever the painting or illustration, none of Rogers many works needs a signature. This painting is as fresh and exciting as the first "Yes" album covers were years ago. The quality and style lives on - may it always do so!

Carlos Chacon says:
When I see Blue Desert I can't help but think about ABWH, my first contact with the Yes-guys. This image is engraved in a part of me much more complex than the mere brain, I would say it forms part of a higher stage of thought. Blue Desert is a masterpiece on its own right, supremely balanced in color and motion, and very much alive. These are the kind of works that I feel very proud to show to my friends when we are together listening to music or simply chatting, and I feel proud because I had the chance to know them and to introduce others to this high art form.

Sergio Ivan Castuera says:
Mexico, puebla.

Jasper Joppe says:
I must Say, that the Blue Desert painting is a turning point to me in Roger Dean's career. To the audience it was up to this painting that we knew Roger painting with all kinds of tachniques, like watercolour, inks, Rapidograph and so on. Undoubtedly there could also be a reason of convenience for Roger to work with "easier" kinds of media, like Acrillyc based colours. The music industry is always as fast as possible, and Roger had to fullfil a job in less than no time, time after time... But it's a very good one! To me it is up to this day now that this painting shows the fantasy of Roger Dean in its most ultimate way. Very often he has used all kinds of blue colors, and somehow I feel those paintings the most beautiful. However, all kinds of things are said about the stone age, as I call the last period of Dean from 1989 until now. The Blue desert painting has another mystical way to me. Beside It's prime use, the record cover of ABWH, I've never found a real good print of this painting. Once I ordered the poster version from Pomegranate, and it made me sad to find this image in to much contrast. I think you can rape a painting easily by turning the colours all the way up, and Blue desert is such a painting. I do hope that one day in my life fine art prints will be made like the Topographic Oceans Painting, on which Roger had to work again after such a long time. Can we make a deal here?

fantastic mate .I hope heaven looks something like this. good on ya R.D

Francisco Osorio says:

Tim Lau says:
THIS BRILLANT PRINT REMINDS ME OF THE WARM BEAUTIFUL DAY I SAW THE ABWH SHOW! IT HANGS IN MY OFFICE NOW. THANKS ROGER.

Alberto Raiser says:
Gracias Roger!!
Gracias Yes !!

This is my favorite work of yours! This used to be on my wall(but ended up lost while moving), and it was a great inspiration to me in the simplest and most beatiful ways. Everybody dreams what other worlds are out there and if it is possible to see them. You paint them for others to be reminded that: If it can be conceived, it can be achieved, It is a pleasure to enjoy your work Mr.Dean. Thanks!!!

Jonne Perä says:
I think, that the image is GREAT. The longer you look at it the more you find from it. It's really YES!

Chris Scharenbroch says:
Blue Desert is the most beautiful painting I've ever seen. I thought the cover for 'Keys To Ascension' was amazing as well, but this is truly the most inspirational. Thank You

Enzo Perugini says:

Thomas Sivertsen says:
Roger Dean has, since the Yes Fragile album been one of my favorite artist, and he will always be atached to Yes music. As a Dean/Yes fan, I was (of course) disapointed over the 90125 and Big Generator albumcovers, but even more excited when the ABWH was released. The Blue Dessert is truly a great picture that fits the great music very well. A Roger Dean albumcover alone is a good argument for buying the CD. (Of course, the size of the CD is the only argument against it. It is hard to enjoy great art on a 12 by 12 cm sheet.) I hope that Roger Dean will continue to share his great inner visions with us.

achille benigni says:
I'm a huge yes-fan from Italy and love all the album covers painted by Roger Dean. The incredible landscapes he draws with his unique style are the graphic representation of the yes music. This is one of my favorite covers, even though I couldn't say the same about the ABWH album.

Daniel Esper Cintra says:
This is Roger Dean....

Roy Mauritsen says:
like other posts here.. this is one of my favorite paintings and also one of my favorite albums.. I think in a video for one of the songs off ABWH.. thereis an animated eagle that flies across this landscape.. as an Artist, myself.. Mr. Dean is a huge inspiration to me in his fatastical realization of landscape.. I met him briefly in NYC during one of the shows for OYE tour for YES. That was a great moment. Thanks Mr. Dean!

Dennis Haklar says:
Great atmosphere! Blue Desert has a Castenada feel.My wife and I went to see the real painting in san Francisco in an art gallery that had Roger's work on display. It is larger than life, it is life. You stand in front of it and its energy just draws you in.

Maurizio Valentini says:
Roger is...... incredible.... the only serious choice for the original design is the Fantasy Man... Great!

Clare says:
the spirit of this picture is great. free and easy. living architecture. natural growth...

Thanks Roger from Chile !!!

Kurt Bischoff says:
This has become one of my favourite roger dean images--in the same way that the abwh album is one of the best in the yes catalog. I saw the abwh tour at pine knob, in michigan, and was blown away! Though i am a huge yes fan--since 1971 & have seen yes in concert 16 times--i have always wondered if abwh getting together with the others to form 'union' was the right thing to do... Still and all, it is a great cover, roger! And i give you much credit for continuing to produce images for the band, in the confining area of the cd! Best wishes, and thank you for all of your past work!
Kurt Bischoff warren, michigan

Roberto Fernandes de Sousa says:
It reminds me of the early Yes days when we used to look at the images, listening to the songs, traveling inside our dreams. Of course it is more sophisticated than those images in the past, but the feeling inside it is the same.

John Duggan says:
This was a big, bright album cover at a big, bright time. I was just finishing university when I heard about the ABWH reunion, and when it came out, I felt the bright, fresh appearance of the 'Blue Desert' album cover went so well with the bright, fresh sound of the music. Everything was 'up' about this whole period, and I still recall it when I look at this beautiful picture today. Definitely my favourite.

Maurice Doubleday says:
The thing I always liked about this piece is that Roger did it when Yes were too hip to use him on 90125 etc. but brought him in for this special project. It gave the album the feel it needed and gave young Yes fans hope.

Peter Persson says:
Thank you for bringing "Blue Desert" in the Up Close section. It is my all-time favourite. I have a large poster of it in my bureau and everyone, who sees it there, loves the picture, too.

Luke Winter says:
This is my favourite painting. Not of Roger Dean, of all artists. I've never seen any (painted) landscape which is as amazing as the Blue Desert.

Ken Wechsler says:
This truely remarkable work has always astounded me. This work is from the Anderson Bruford Wakeman Howe album. The album is a "Yes" album that couldn't legally be called Yes, due to the absence of Chris Squire. The detail in this work is amazing. The viewer can almost "feel" the shade in the foreground, under the tree. Mr. Dean seems to have a love of the American south west, because many works seem to set there. This work has a avian theme, as even the buildings have bird-like "beaks" projecting from them.

Eilidh says:
I think that this is one of Roger Dean's best, most influencial pictures. It's fantastic!

Cengiz VARLIK says:
This has always reminded me the chateau of Martians down on Earth. Is the flying bird a messenger between us and them? Maybe the eagle is the guardian.
