These artists proofs were important experiments, the paper is a very thick matt black and the prints really needed to stand out from the background, as indeed they do. The Earth appears to be slightly raised and the ink and colour so deeply saturated that it almost appears as luminous against the background which is deepest matt black and appears endless. All of these elements needed to be tested and, they worked.
