Aurora was painted for Yes’s 2026 album of the same name.
Based on Roger Dean’s early sketches, the sky and aurora were largely painted by Freyja Dean. Once the sky was mostly complete, Roger worked on the architectural elements and foreground, bringing the painting to completion.
This was the first full-scale painting that Roger and Freyja physically worked on together, side by side. The experience of creating the work together has made Aurora a particularly meaningful painting for both of them.
